I was one of her bridesmaids and got to be part of a beautiful wedding. We did the engagement shoot in Charleston, South Carolina in July of 2010. It is always fun to shoot in a cool place!

One of my assignments this week for The Appalachian was to go and shoot the Afroman concert. This was my first time shooting a concert, and I was very nervous, especially when they pulled me up on stage and let me stand there and take some photos. Afroman used to be well known, but I was surprised his concert was sold out. It was at the Dragonfly Theater & Pub in Boone, NC. By the way, he liked to carry around a Colt 45, and was doing illegal things up on stage, haha.

I took pictures of a brother and sister, Seth and Selina, this week. They were giving them to their parents for Christmas. It was fun to do, but stressful getting prints done right before Christmas Eve! In the end, they came out nicely. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Wow, I can't believe I just graduated from RCC yesterday. Over the past two years, I have learned so much, and made some wonderful friendships. I will miss RCC, and all the long hours of working in the lab, and hanging out with everyone, and stressing to get all our assignments done. However, I am starting school at Appalachian State University in a few weeks, and I am sure the stress will start right back up again. To all you photo kids, I am so grateful to have spent these past two wonderful years with all of you. So here it is, my final commercial portfolio.

It is about Lee Ball, a cousin of mine, who races cars! It is cool to go see his races at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro. One of these days, you might see him racing on TV one Sunday for Nascar! Yay! Will Sanders Test Shoot

The photos above are those of Will Sanders. I got to go help out one weekend for Will, who was doing a test shoot for himself. The model is wearing clothing by Ashish, who is good friends with Nadine and Will. Nadine rented the giant gnome, named Gordon for the shoot. Of course Will had all his camera's that day, both film and digital. I think he took like 15 rolls of film! We had to keep going inside that day because there were several random showers, then small windows of sunlight. I had a lot of fun looking at Gordon. We became quick friends. Too bad I will never see him again....

Back in London for My Second Internship

Ok everyone, I am finally posting onto my blog since being back in London. Sorry it is taking me so long to post, I have been busy! These are pictures from a shoot we did for T-Mobile. The whole idea behind it is that the models are people living in the United Kingdom that are not from it. The picture with the blonde girl is supposed to look like an American or Australian couple living in a British city. The brunette couple is supposed to be European (Spain, France, etc.). Basically, this ad demonstrates the downside of living in the UK--The terrible weather! There are tons of rural parks in cities here, so the point is that it is someone who got stuck in a rainstorm one day, who is on the phone with someone from back home. The person back home is telling them how wonderful and sunny the weather is. Also, you will notice that there is a bit of pink in each image, because T-Mobile's color is pink. It is advertising a calling plan T-Mobile has developed for international calling. Basically, It is my perfect calling plan, because I am in the same situation, an American living in London. And yes, it really does rain here ALL THE TIME! haha

The first three images are done by Ashley Cameron. There is also a dramatic version of one of the shots that Ashley is going to use in his portfolio. Also, notice me in the background of all the shots pretending to be someone walking in the background with an umbrella!

The pictures from the shoot are by me. I got very lucky, because the shoot ended up being literally two buildings down from the flat I am living in here. So, I was on time for once!

This is the third time I attempted to shoot jewelry for one of our assignments for Chuck. It had to be shot on a large format camera. The first time I did it, it had to be shot with chrome film, which I really messed up on. For this shot, I used a Sinar F-1 4x5 view camera with the Leaf Aptus 22 digital back. My ISO was at 25. I hope I pulled it off this time.

So.....everybody take a guess at who this is....I bet you won't get it. It's Sarah Enfiedjian! For those of you who do not know Sarah, you will probably never see her wearing lipstick, big earrings, and nail polish again. Thank you so much for being my model Sarah!

This shot was done for James' class. He had us find a tear sheet of a model advertising a product, and we had to try and recreate it exactly. I chose to do the ad for OPI nail color. The color is called Vodka and Caviar. It is part of their Russian Collection. I shot it using my Canon 30D with my 70-200 mm lens at an ISO of 100. I liked how it turned out, but printing it is another story!

Light Recipes

Here are some of the shots I had to do for our joint project with the Graphic Design Students. My partner, Will, wanted to do advertising for R.E.I. gift cards. The campaign is Outdoor Enthusiast. We wanted to show different aspects of what REI sells. Pet gear is one thing that a lot of people may not be aware of REI selling. I like doing shots of pets, so I was excited about that part. I am still in the process of editing these shots, it was hard to do location shots in the middle of the winter where the weather isn't so great! I shot with my Canon 30d, using both the 17-40mm lens, and the 24-105 mm lens. Thank you Jackie for bringing pixel to Deep River to be the star of the show!

Mountain Man

I shot this for James' second assignment where we had to use a mixture of natural and artificial light. I decided David would be selling the mountains of North Carolina. Everyone needs to take the time to go to the mountains. David, Cindy, Jonathan, and I went to visit Biltmore Estate this weekend, and it was gorgeous there. David makes the perfect mountain man. I shot it with a Nikon D200 and a hand held that Jonathan held for me.

Conversation Hearts

Well, it is back to school for me. New classes, new assignments. Our first assignment for Chuck's Advertising Photography class was to shoot dessert. I shot it once before this shot, and used a fruit tart, but it did not come out how I wanted, so this is a second attempt. I struggle with what to shoot. I feel like I spend so much time thinking of a good setup and composition, that I am not able to spend the time on lighting as I would like. I miss the perks of having a stylist! I shot it using the Phase One digital back on a Hasselblad. I wanted the shot to be more of a close-up on the candy, but I ran into the problem of not having the right lens.

Thank you to my wonderful neighbor Daniel for modeling for me so I could shoot this for James' class. I shot it with my Canon 30D, with my 17-40mm lens. We went to the big construction area outside our apartment complex, and I had him get in a giant concrete sewage connector. The ISO was 100, and my exposure was 1/125 s @ f/4. I might try and redo this shot to get the triangles that were formed by his glasses and the shadows out of the shot.

Slimfast

These are more of the photo's Ashley took when I was on internship. It was for Slimfast, and was shot over two days at the Worx Studios in London. I was there for the casting, both days of shooting, and I got to go shopping with Nadine (stylist). I liked being able to participate in the many different aspects of a photo shoot. There was also a make-up artist (Emma). Someone came and videoed parts of the shoot to put on the Slimfast website. It was funny because now that I am back in the United States, I will be watching TV, and see a commercial for Slim Fast come on, and it is the ladies in green and blue, dancing, moving around, and feeling good in their own bodies, and it is exactly the same thing we were shooting in London, just the USA version. Ashley shot this with his new Canon Mark III.

Vauxhall Astra

Yay! I got to be there when Ashley had a car shoot!! It was very informative for me, a very crazy day. We did the shoot in a place called Leighton Buzzard at Calvert Studios. It was Ashley's first time using his new Canon Mark III! After getting lost in the pouring rain, standing on a street corner waiting for the other assistant to pick me up, getting invited in by the lady whose house I was standing in front of, and meeting her, finding out she went to William and Mary for college, and talking to her bout her old days of being a glamour model, I made it to the shoot. Now I can't wait to do a car shoot of my own with the other Commercial Kids. The studio was huge, and it was a fun day. The funny thing is we were supposed to be shooting a 4 door, and it was a 2-door. The shoot was for new parking sensors the car has.

Thalidomide

This was another shoot I was at that Ashley did. It was for a drug called Thalidomide, which now greatly extends the life of people age 70+ who have been diagnosed with blood cancer. Several years ago, the drug Thalidomide was used by women who were pregnant as a prenatal vitamin type thing, and in one batch of it, it caused all the children born to have stunted growth and stumpy arms. It had received a bad rep, but now it is back in action for a different ailment. Just remember, if you are on the drug, you are not supposed to operate machinery, so Ashley has run into a bit of a problem with having the client agree on a shot to use. It was fun to help with the shoots, because they involved going to a farm in Swindon to shoot a yellow Tiger Moth Airplane, then 2 days later we were in the studio shooting the models on a Harley Davidson, and also in a classic MG red convertible sports car. We were supposed to be shooting an additional day on James Bond's yacht, but it got cancelled.

Will Sanders Photography!

I helped Nadine assist a shoot one Sunday for her husband, Will Sanders. It was shot at South Bank in London, and I had a lot of fun at this shoot! Will shoots all film, and has several cameras he takes to shoots with him, and gets shots from each of them. He was shooting both medium format and small format. It was cool to go back to the good ole days of film. I decided that when I get back to RCC, I am going to shoot more film, and process and print back in the part of school I have not been in since the summer. Will's website is great for anyone who likes these shots. I took tons of snapshots here. All the ones above the text are Will's, all the shots under this text are mine.

Mini Moderns

Aricept Shoot Location 2

The second part of the Aricept campaign was shot in the National Museum of History in London. We used the same models, and shot this the day after the beach trip. We had to be at the museum at 6 am that morning, so we could shoot before the museum opened. It was terrible to get up early, but a reward to be able to be in the museum when no one else could be. If you look in the background of the final, you see me pretending to be visiting the museum haha (In the white). The lens used for this was an extreme wide angle lens. It actually made a big circle, and was cropped in. Ashley has spent a lot of time on this shot, tweaking it so the client approved, and I think he did a good job with it.

This is one of the shoots I assisted Ashley for over internship. The shoot was the first week I was in London, but it has taken a long time for a decision from the ad agency on the shot they wanted. We drove to a place called Milford-On-Sea in England to do the shoot, my first time at a UK beach! Notice the pebbles instead of sand! It was a really fun day and laid back shoot. Enjoy the snapshots I took of the shoot. The drug Aricept is used for people who have Alzheimer's.

Ok, so Ashley made me model to test out some lighting, and then he fixed it up so I didn't look hideous. We were testing out lighting styles that I might like to use for when I shot my portrait of Leigh. We did quite a few different lighting styles and setups, but I personally wanted to experiment with getting a glow around the face for my first portrait. It is a better technique to use with males, rather than females, because males have stubbly faces already. It shows all texture on females! But he was managed to bring out my eyes in it! This may be the start of a series I try and do of laughing people who seem to be enjoying themselves. This was also the very first photo I have done with lighting/etc since being on internship that is my photo. Ashley helped me to accomplish the lighting style I liked, and Leigh was kind enough to model for me. It was shot using a Canon Mark 2. Thank you again to Ashley, who taught me some of the ways to make the photo pop more in photoshop. It took around 4 times redoing the retouching before I was able to make it look like this, and I am excited for everyone to see it!

Ok, so for those of you who don't know, I am interning in London with Ashley Cameron for 8 weeks. I have only been there for around 4 days, but already I have been able to experience his crazy life as a photographer, and it has been great. Saturday, we did a huge shoot for the Sun, a paper here in London. It involved many models in a "party" scene, and included page 3 girls (the bikini girls) It was a crazy experience to be at a shoot like that. I think I acted like a deer in headlights sometimes. There were 6 models there that had been hired from a modeling agency, and many friends came out to get paid to do it, and guess who got put in the crowd as well? The assistants! Thankfully Richard was there assisting with me, because he has experience. In the end, after Ashley and the art director Martin spent all day Sunday (until 4am) editing this ad, it turned out great. It is going to be a 4-page spread, that was sent off to the printers today. Because of the size of the cell phone the party is on, he only used 12 people, so most of us were taken out, but here are some cool shots from the shoot. We rented a studio and lights. Ashley and I shot the papers and cut each of them out on Friday night. It was a huge project, that really only began to happen the day before the shoot. Tomorrow we are doing a shoot on one of England's beaches...it should be fun. Wednesday is a shoot at the National Museum of Natural History. I will update how those shoots went as well.

Myrtle the Turtle

This was done for my final self promo shot of the semester. I brought my pet turtle, Myrtle, into the studio to shoot. He is my buddy, and despite a little skydiving experience he had while I was shooting, he was a good sport. I was only able to get a few shots, because I felt bad after his sky dive.

I wanted a fun angle on a frozen drink, so that is why I shot this. Instead of using actual frozen drink mix, I used strawberry applesauce so it would not melt, and it worked. I shot it with my Canon 30D and my 17-40mm lens. My ISO was 100 and I shot it at f/11 @ 1/8 a second.

Bom Chicka Wah Wah

This was our second major project for our digital imaging class. For this, we had to shoot a model with a product on a white background, then go out and shoot two locations, then mask in the model with the product. I chose to use axe as my product, because those commercials sure are true. Griffin was nice enough to be my model, and he did a great job showing the emotion I had in mind. I had fun shooting the locations at the zoo... I love the baboon shot. I shot Griffin with my Canon 30d and 17-40mm lens, and I shot at the zoo with my Canon 30d, 70-200 lens.

Too Many Laurens!!!

This was our first major project for our Digital Imaging class. We could either do a 360 panoramic, a stacked 180, a Frankenstein composite, or a too many twins composite. I chose to have twins. Thank you to Lauren for changing her outfit each time, and playing on the playground for me in the hot sun. She is wearing all my close, including those bunny slippers. Her favorite shot of her would have to be that center one, going down the slide. After many sleepless nights, this is what I have to show. I had trouble blending the mulch, but I think it looks a little better now than it was before. When I had to print this, it ended up being around five feet in length, and 15 inches tall. I had to print it twice, because the printer cut my paper the first time...so as you can see, this assignment caused me a lot of stress, but it is all good in the end.

Pug on a Rug

Jonathan and I shot this for one of the group assignments for James. It was a still life, multiple shot image. We lit the cute little pug for detail, using Jonathan's favorite, the fill card, then lit the spotlight, followed by the tv and then a separate fill card for the handle. I like how it ended up turning out.

A Photo Kid Day at the Zoo

Ok, so what can I say? I LOVE Meerkats!! So naturally, I spent the most time in the part of the zoo with them! I used my canon 30d to shoot this, with a 70-200 lens.

A few of us spent the day at the zoo shooting for one of our assignments, and David had a little bit of fun on this statue....I found it pretty entertaining....

Model Composite

This was our 5th client assignment in our commercial class. We had to turn in 10 images of one model to be used as a portfolio for the model to take to clients and agencies. The lovely Selina modeled for me again, and did a wonderful job! She was very patient with the shoots, despite several equipment malfunctions, so I owe her big time for helping me out!! I am very satisfied with all the shots I got of her, however, I must say that in one of the images, everyone needs to know that I am a Carolina fan, so don't hold that photo against me! We shot on location, at the YMCA, a park in Asheboro, and the RCC studio.

Brent's Corvette

I shot my friend Brent's car in Greenville a couple weekends ago. He races it, and takes very good care of it. It's his baby, so naturally, I wanted some good images of it for him to have. It was my first car shoot, and I had many issues with lighting. I could not get the power to work right, so my plan to use 3 alien bees failed. I had to deal with it, and lit what I could. I hope to shoot his car again soon and am counting on the equipment not to die on me. Here are a few of the shots I managed to get.

This is the image I used for one of my self promos. I like the angle I got on it.

Brent has had this license plate since I have known him. I like this shot because it not only shows off the Corvette name on the back, it makes me think of good times freshman year at ECU.

This is Brent, proud owner and driver of this awesome 1998 Corvette. I had to take a picture of him in front of it so he could show it off. By the time I took this, all my lighting was failing me, and I tried using my Vivitar flash. It also gave me problems, and sometimes didn't go off. The light is a little harsh, but it works.

Rice Krispy Treat

This was another group assignment we had to do for James' class. We were given an ad for rice krispy treats and told to recreate it exactly how it was in the add. I was happy to get this one because that meant I got to make rice krispy treats! So what you see is a product of my cooking abilities hahaha....that doesn't say much, the recipe was wrong and I ended up having WAY too many marshmallows! They still turned out very good though. My group was Laura, Carolyn, and I. We shot it on the Mamiya 645 camera with a digital Leaf Aptus back.

I shot this for a self promo shot. I wanted to create a prison scene where a guard was attacked, dropping his keys and flashlight. I struggled to get the actual flashlight to show up. I do like the cold feeling the image has. I shot it with the Leaf Aptus 17 digital back on a Mamiya 645. My ISO was 400. The exposure was f/11 @1/125. I used an 80mm lens.

Our summer semester at RCC was crazy. Small Format was a memorable class and a tshirt seemed to be appropriate to have as something to remember one of our last classes as 1st years together. I designed the shirt with help of quotes Dusty and other people thought of, and arranged everyone ordering one. We got a picture made together and I wanted to show it off. Angie and I photoshopped shirts onto people who did not have a shirt.

I shot these images of Selina for our Client #2 assignment, which was a head and shoulders shot showing character. I shot it with a Mamiya 645 with Kodak Ektachrome 100g film. My exposure was f/8 @ 1/60 at an ISO of 100. Selina is a second grade teacher in Asheboro.

Hand Bag Group Assignment

These were accomplished as a group consisting of myself, Jonathan Andrews, Jessica Benton, and Kathryn Lawson. It was an assignment for James' Lighting Workshop class. We were given around three hours to come up with ideas and go out and shoot them. I am pretty satisfied with what our group was able to get.

I wanted to try a weird angle, so I did and I like how it came out. We shot it with a Canon 30D with a 17mm lens. The exposure was 1/640 @ f/6.3 at an ISO of 100.

This was our low key scene. With a Canon 30D, we shot this at 1/200 @ f/16 with an ISO of 100. A 45mm lens was used.

This was our high key scene. Using a 39mm lens on a Canon 30D, the ISO was set at 100 and the exposure was 1/200 at f/4.

This was creative setup number 2. Shot with a Canon 30D 24mm lens, the ISO was 100. The exposure was 1/200 at f/9.

This was shot for one of my self promo shots we have to do for our commercial class. I love candy, so I wanted to show my personality with this shot of skittles. I shot this with my Canon 30D using a 40mm lens. My exposure was 1/60 at f/4.

Client #1 Breakfast

My first Client Assignment for Commercial! The theme is breakfast, so I chose pancakes! I shot it with my Canon 30D, with the 17-40mm lens. I used an alien bee to light it. My ISO was set at 100, and I made my exposure at 1/125 @f/19.

These are some of my favorites from my first year at RCC. There will be more to come!

This was one of my weeklies for small format this summer. It was taken in downtown Greensboro on the 4th of July for the Fun Fourth Celebration. I shot it with my Canon 30D with my 70-200 telephoto lens. My ISO was 250 and my exposure was f/5.6 at 1/1000s.

I shot the inside of my church this summer for our Large Format 2 Class. I used a Sinar F-1 camera, with 100 TMAX film. This was the interior portion of the assignment.

I got this corn at a little produce stand on the way home from the beach one weekend. I shot this with my Mamiya RB67 camera with Kodak 160 VC film. It was for a joint assignment of Sat/Desat, this was the Desat.

I shot this in Copenhagen, Denmark last October when I went to visit a friend who was going to school in Sweden. I took the train from Sweden to Denmark alone just to take pictures. I was allowed to get on a floating bridge to get this shot. It was taken during my first semester at RCC and used for my Design 1 portfolio. I shot it using my Mamiya RB67 with TMAX 400 film.

This was shot for the Industrial assignment we had in Small Format this summer. I shot it at Foothills Brewery in Winston Salem, NC. We used a total of three alien bees, all gelled with a different color. I think the gels gave it a cool effect. I shot it with my Canon 30D, with the 17-40 mm f/4 lens. My ISO was set at 250, and my exposure was 1/250 @ f/6.7.
